He blocked funding for the Choice Program as it was running out of money
Elected officials should do everything in their power to ensure that our nation’s veterans receive the best care possible when they return home. But unfortunately, one of our state’s lawmakers, Rep. Tim Walz, has consistently blocked legislation that would improve care for veterans.
This July, Rep. Walz failed to support emergency funding for the Veterans Choice Program — right as the program was running out of money. This crucial program allows some veterans to seek care outside of the VA when they need to, but Rep. Walz was more interested in using this moment as a political opportunity to pursue an anti-choice agenda. A deal was ultimately reached to continue the program, but not before Rep. Walz blocked and delayed the vote, seeing it as a political opportunity to pursue an anti-choice agenda. He put veterans’ lives on the line.
That wasn’t the first time Rep. Walz blocked better care for veterans. In 2015, Walz voted against an act that would have brought greater accountability to the VA and kept patients safe. Then, in 2017, he voted against a similar bill — blocking an effort to make the VA more accountable yet again.
The pattern is clear: at critical moments, Rep. Walz stands directly between veterans and the care they have earned.
This is unacceptable, and we ask that you join us in calling Rep. Walz’s office. Tell him to stop blocking veterans’ care!
