Senator Brown tried to water down VA Accountability
The VA Accountability and Whistleblower Protection Act of 2017 passed both the House and Senate with strong bipartisan support, because it is a common-sense reform that will protect the lives of veterans. It was recently signed by President Trump and had the support of every major veterans group in the nation.
Unfortunately, Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown attempted to put unions over veterans by significantly watering down this measure in committee. He was trying to make it harder to fire VA employees — exactly what this bill was seeking to change.
The law will reduce the time it takes to fire bad employees at the VA, give Secretary Shulkin the ability to recoup bonuses awarded to employees who are found to have engaged in misconduct, and reduce the pensions of VA employees found guilty of felonies related to their employment at the VA. It’s a great piece of reform, but Senator Brown tried to make it less effective.
Tell Senator Brown to stop putting unions before our veterans.
