Texas has some of the most burdensome property taxes in the nation.
Under current law, Texans can vote down property tax hikes of 8 percent or more, but only if they gather thousands of signatures in opposition.
House Bill 2 would give Texas residents a greater voice when it comes to taxation. These bills would lower the threshold for vetoing property tax increases from 8 percent to 2.5 percent and wouldn’t require citizens to gather signatures for the tax proposal to go to a vote.
In other words, if the government tries to increase property taxes more than 2.5 percent, local voters get an opportunity to approve that increase.
HB 2 would give taxpayers in Texas, many of whom are increasingly veterans and military families, more control over their government while still funding essential services.
Tell your lawmaker to support veterans and military families by passing HB 2!
