Trump signed VA Accountability & Whistleblower Protection Act of 2017 into law!
For far too long, veterans have suffered at the hands of negligent and incompetent employees at the Department of Veterans Affairs. It’s nearly impossible to fire a bad VA employee, so the people who work there have little incentive to follow the rules — they know there won’t be any consequences for their misconduct. Because of this, veterans receive poor quality of care and face delays in urgently needed medical attention. In addition, resources at the VA have been wasted and mismanaged. All in all, a toxic culture has prevailed within the department.
On Friday, June 23rd of 2017, President Trump took action by signing into law the bipartisan VA Accountability and Whistleblower Protection Act of 2017. This legislation will empower Secretary Shulkin with the ability to quickly terminate employees who engage in misconduct and hold them accountable for their actions. This will help him usher in a new era of integrity and accountability at the VA — so veterans can start receiving the level of care they need and deserve.
